Terms of use

The service is a website that loads a background-removal tool into your browser and then gets out of the way. The segmentation model, the compositing and the export all run on your own device; we operate no servers that process your images, and we cannot see, store or recover anything you work on. See the privacy policy for how that is put together.

It is free, with no account, no credit meter and no watermark. Nothing here is a trial of something paid, and no payment is taken from you for the editor as it stands today.

You must hold the rights to every image you process — copyright, and where people are recognisable, whatever consent your use requires. You are responsible for complying with the law that applies to you, including any rules about likenesses, trade marks and personal data in the pictures themselves.

Because your images never reach us, we cannot review, moderate, restore or delete them. That cuts both ways, and it is worth being direct about the unhelpful half: if you lose your work, we have no copy of it. Keep your originals.

We claim no ownership of, and no licence over, anything you put into the tool or anything that comes out of it. Use the output commercially without restriction from us: client work, product listings, advertising, resale, whatever the job is. No attribution is required, there is no cap on how many files you process, and there is no separate commercial tier that would make an ordinary export a licence breach.

This is a statement about our position, not a guarantee about the underlying photograph. If you did not have the right to use an image before you removed its background, removing its background does not give you one.

Two open segmentation models ship with the editor, and we would rather state their licensing exactly as we found it than round it off into something reassuring.

A model’s licence governs the model, and is generally a separate question from who owns the picture it produced — but the question is open enough that we are not going to answer it on your behalf. If your use is commercially sensitive, take your own advice, or stay on the Fast model, whose licence is unambiguous. You can switch between the two in the editor at any time.

Do not use the service to produce material that is unlawful where you are — including child sexual abuse material, non-consensual intimate imagery, or images made to deceive people about someone’s identity or conduct. Do not use it to infringe someone else’s rights. Do not attempt to disrupt the site or the people using it.

We have no ability to detect any of this, which is precisely why it sits with you. There is no monitoring here to be caught by; there is only what is lawful and what is not.

We may change, suspend or discontinue the service, in whole or in part, at any time and without notice. Features may be added, altered or removed; models may be replaced with different ones; the site may be offline for maintenance or for good. There is no uptime commitment.

Because the tool runs in your browser and caches what it needs, a page you have already loaded will often keep working when the site does not. That is a consequence of the design, not a guarantee we are making.

The service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement, to the fullest extent permitted by law.

In plain terms: the cutout may be wrong. Automatic segmentation struggles with hair, fur, glass, motion blur and low contrast, and it will sometimes hand you an edge you have to fix by hand or reject outright. Browsers differ, memory runs out on large files, and a device may simply be too slow for the larger model. Check every export before you use it for anything that matters.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, or for loss of profit, revenue, business, goodwill, data or images, arising out of or connected with your use of the service — whether in contract, tort (including negligence) or otherwise, and whether or not we were told such loss was possible.

Our total aggregate liability arising out of or connected with the service is limited to the amount you have paid us for it, which is nothing.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited — including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation. If you are a consumer, these terms do not affect your statutory rights.

These terms, and any dispute arising out of them or the service, are governed by the laws of India. The courts of Madhya Pradesh, India have jurisdiction, except that if you are a consumer you keep the protection of the mandatory law of the country you live in, and may bring proceedings there.

We may update these terms; the date at the top of the page is the version you are reading. Continuing to use the service after a change means you accept the updated terms, so if a change matters to you, the honest advice is to read the diff rather than assume it is housekeeping.
